Government members blame the Bolsonaro clan for tariffs and the opposition criticizes the Executive

Government allies and members of the Executive blamed and raised the tone against members of the Bolsonaro family after the announcement of a new 25% tariff from the United States on Brazilian products. On another front in the exchange of accusations, opposition parliamentarians criticized and blamed the Executive's actions.

For government supporters, the recent trip by senator and pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic for the PL, Flávio Bolsonaro (RJ), to the United States weighed heavily on the American government's announcement. The parliamentarian, however, stated that he had "expressly" asked Donald Trump not to tax Brazilian companies.

Amidst the clash of accusations, Pix's defense has also been reinforced by allies of the Executive. The USTR (Office of the White House Trade Representative) report, which recommends the new tariff, states that Pix as an electronic payment method is "unfair and discriminatory" against American companies.

"Pix is ours, it's here to stay and we will defend this achievement for the Brazilian people. What the Bolsonaros do against Brazil is criminal. Traitors to the homeland, to the Brazilian people", said former minister and deputy Glesi Hoffmann (PT-PR), in a publication on X.

Opposition leaders acknowledged concerns about the new tariff, but held the government responsible and defended negotiations to reverse the measure.

"The responsibility lies with the Lula government, which is destroying Brazil, we have 30 days to resolve it. If the tariffs materialize, the responsibility lies exclusively with the Lula government", stated the leader of the opposition in the Chamber, Cabo Gilberto Silva (PL-PB), on social media.

July 15th is the deadline for defining and applying the new taxation against Brazil. "Lula has more time to go there and negotiate, to defend Brazilian companies, to value our agriculture", said Flávio in an interview with Itatiaia.

In public statements this Tuesday, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and ministers also attributed the new tariff to direct action by Flávio and former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL).

"These sons of Bolsonaro can be worse than him. They asked a foreign country to interfere in Brazilian decisions. That's what you have to say loud and clear: they are traitors", highlighted Lula during an event in Catalão (GO).

As an argument against the PT administration, opposition parliamentarians also highlighted that the American government assessed as an example of weakness in the fight against corruption the decision of Minister Dias Toffoli, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), who annulled the evidence obtained through the Odebrecht leniency agreement.

"Who would have thought that having ministers like this, protected by Lula and the PT would cause us problems, right?", said deputy Mauricio Marcon (PL-RS) in a post on social media.

In rescue of the defense of sovereignty, government allies assessed that there was "retaliation" from the North American government. "The USA wants to retaliate against Brazil for decisions by the Brazilian Justice, for Pix and for policies defined by the Brazilian State. Pix became a target precisely because it worked", said deputy Carlos Zarattini (PT-SP) on X.

New "tariff"
Since the US announcement of the new tariff, parliamentarians allied with the government have intensified publications on the subject and criticized the Bolsonaro family, while the opposition had a more timid reaction.

The episode has been called "new tariço" and "tariflavio", in reference to the pre-candidate for President. On X (formerly Twitter), the hashtag "Pix is ours" also gained prominence.

As CNN Brasil showed, the episode has been seen as "ammunition" by PT allies against Flávio Bolsonaro. The Chief Executive's campaign aims to link the new tariff proposal to an articulation by Flávio.

The senator, however, denies having addressed the matter and says he only presented concerns related to the advance of organized crime to the American authorities. He reinforced the defense of classifying factions such as PCC (Primeiro Comando da Capital) and CV (Comando Vermelho) as terrorist organizations.
