Government expects QAV price to fall in June after three consecutive increases

The general coordinator of Sustainable Aviation Fuel at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Darlan Santos, stated, this Tuesday (26), that the government expects a reduction in the price of QAV (aviation kerosene) in June, given the recent drop in international prices for a barrel of oil.

The airline sector has faced a significant rise in fuel costs in recent months, which has put pressure on airline operations across the country.

In February the conflict between the United States and the Middle East began, and since then there have been increases in fuel prices. In March it was around 9%; in April it reached the highest percentage, almost 55%; and in May it was 18%.

QAV is one of the main cost components in the airline industry and currently represents around 46% of airline operating expenses.

In addition to the expectation of a reduction in the price of fossil fuel, the government is also working on measures aimed at the energy transition in aviation. According to Darlan Santos, the inclusion of SAF (sustainable aviation fuel) in Brazilian legislation from 2027 onwards is already being analyzed by the Civil House.

The measure is part of the government's strategy to expand the use of sustainable fuels in the aviation sector and reduce dependence on conventional kerosene in the coming years.
