Government details budget blockage; R$ 4.9 billion in amendments are blocked
The federal government published on Friday night (29) details of the additional blockage of R$22.1 billion in the 2026 Budget.
The new budget restriction adds to the previous blockage of R$1.6 billion, so that the total containment for the year amounts to R$23.7 billion.
Among the blocked resources, the block includes R$4.969 billion in parliamentary amendments.
Lead among the most affected departments on the Esplanada dos Ministérios:
- Ministry of Defense: blocking of R$4.363 billion;
- Ministry of Cities: R$3.32 billion;
- Ministry of Education: R$1.6 billion;
- Ministry of Finance: R$1.396 billion;
- Ministry of Health: R$1 billion.
The government decree maintains the mechanism for phasing Executive expenses, establishing a commitment restriction of around R$27.1 billion until November.
The commitment limits set for the bodies are distributed between the months of July, November and December. The measure aims to make the pace of execution compatible with bimonthly tax revaluation cycles.
"This instrument has been of great importance in maintaining the pace of expenditure execution compatible with the revenue collection forecast, as well as in ensuring the capacity of the Federal Executive Branch to absorb any new lockdown needs. With these measures, the Federal Government reinforces the importance of and its commitment to fiscal responsibility", points out a note from the Ministry of Planning and Budget.
"The Government will continue to monitor budgetary and financial execution, in accordance with current legislation, adopting the necessary measures to ensure that the fiscal result for the year is in line with the established goals", he concludes.
The affected folders have until June 8th to detail how they will carry out the blockade. In relation to parliamentary amendments, the contention distribution process, which will focus on bench amendments, will follow its own rules and deadlines, and there may be adjustments according to the Legislature's prioritization.
