Google will allow changing Gmail addresses; see how to do it

Google began releasing this Friday (26) the change of Gmail address to several users around Brazil. The new feature, which had only been released in the United States until then, allows people to change the name that appears before "@gmail.com".

The new feature, requested by users of the platform for years, arrived on Brazilian devices months after being announced by the company's CEO, Sundar Pichai. "2004 was a good year, but your Gmail address doesn't need to be tied to it," he wrote in April of this year.

Those who choose to change the prefix in their email address will have their accounts in all secondary applications, such as Google Photos and Google Drive, changed as well.

To check if you already have the functionality, you need to access the myaccount.google.com/google-account-email portal through your device's browser, log in and click on the "Change Google Account email" button.

Then, in the "Username" field, you must select and write the new prefix and confirm with "Change email".

It is important to note that the modification will only be approved if you enter an address that is not already used by anyone. Just like when creating the address, the block is added to ensure that no two individuals have the same name.

With the new feature, it will still be possible to access your old email, which will act as an alternative address and can also be used to access your account. In its official statement, the company also warned that the user will receive emails sent to both accounts in a single inbox.
