For the 2026 presidential election, Google will maintain the guideline announced in 2024 that prohibits the placement of political ads in the country. With this measure, no content related to political candidates will be able to be shown on Google Ads, the company's advertising platform.

"Elections are important to Google and, over the past few years, we have worked tirelessly to launch new products and services to support candidates and voters. Since 2024, Google Ads has not allowed political ads to run in the country. We are globally committed to supporting the integrity of elections and will continue to engage with authorities regarding this matter," Google said in a note sent to CNN Brasil.

At the time, when the decision was announced, the company stated that it was based on the resolutions of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court). At the time, the technology giant highlighted its "global commitment to supporting the integrity of elections" and stopped running advertisements from the month of May.

According to the resolution defined by the Electoral Court during the municipal elections, digital platforms should provide a repository of advertisements so that they can be monitored in real time by the Court.

Data such as values, those responsible for payment and the characteristics of the advertising target audience should also be provided.

Another measure adopted by the TSE was the determination that big techs (giant technology companies) should adopt guidelines to prevent or reduce the circulation of misinformation or decontextualized information that could impact the electoral process.

In this year's election, the Court is preparing to face yet another challenge involving technology: the presence of AI (Artificial Intelligence).

The Court has been reinforcing measures to contain the spread of misleading content and reduce the impact of disinformation on elections.

Among the measures adopted are the restriction of content created or altered by AI during the 72 hours before the elections and the mandatory provision of explicit warnings that it is content created artificially.
