The Golden Globe updated, this Thursday (7), the award rules regarding the use of artificial intelligence. The next edition of the event is scheduled for January 10, 2027, with a presentation by comedian Nikki Glazer.

"The use of artificial intelligence (AI), including generative AI, does not automatically disqualify a work, as long as creative direction, artistic judgment and human authorship remain the foundations of the entire production process", states the organization.

In the acting categories, the performance cannot be "substantially generated or created by artificial intelligence," but technology can be used to "enhance a performance that remains fundamentally human-led and under the creative control of the credited actor," with permission from the artist.

All entries must include a statement describing any use of generative AI, such as to alter the image or voice of a credited artist, for example. The award eligibility committee will review usage and may request additional information. "Failure to submit the requested information in a timely manner may result in ineligibility," warns the statement.

Last Friday (1st), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, organizer of the Oscars, announced that actors and scripts created by artificial intelligence will not be nominated for the award. The veto now applies to the next edition, scheduled for March 14, 2027.
