Gold closes higher on reports of potential deal between US and Iran
Gold closed higher in this Thursday's session (21), reversing its signal following reports that the United States and Iran reached an agreement to end the conflict in the Middle East. Investors are also considering the more moderate tone in the minutes of the last Fed (Federal Reserve) meeting.
On Comex, the metals division of the New York Stock Exchange (Nymex), gold for June closed up 0.16%, at US$4,542.5 per troy ounce. Silver for July advanced 0.72%, to US$ 76.732 per troy ounce.
The golden metal recovered its losses, reversed its signal and began to rise close to stability in the last minutes of the session, after Al Arabiya published that Washington and Tehran reached an agreement mediated by Pakistan.
The treaty provides for an "immediate and comprehensive" ceasefire, as well as the complete liberation of the Strait of Hormuz. The news caused oil to cool gains and long Treasury yields to fall.
Treasury scenario in the US reduces the chance of interest rate cuts, says expert | MARKET OPENING
Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that he will receive Iranian enriched uranium and that he will "probably" destroy it. The fate of the material, one of the main points of tension in the conflict, was also the subject of speculation in the global press during the morning.
For TD Securities, the divergent headlines about the war move commodities, generating "marked volatility in the positioning of gold".
Amidst the scenario, the market is betting on a rise in interest rates in the United States in December 2026, according to the CME Group monitoring tool. Published yesterday, the draft of the country's last monetary policy decision - in April - also brought a tone signaling that the Fed may soon abandon the "monetary easing stance", according to Capital Economics.
