The news, revealed by Democratic congressman Hackeem Jeffries, was made possible after coordination between the Trump administration and the government of Cape Verde, and with FIFA to bring Ana Cândida Évora to North American territory.
"No mother should miss the chance to see her son make history. (...) It is a privilege to announce that Vozinha's mother will be able to obtain a visa in time to attend this Sunday's match against Uruguay. All fees have been waived, in accordance with official policy. Travel arrangements are already being made for mother and son to reunite in Miami", said Jeffries in announced on social media.
According to Jeffries, the US State Department and Secretary Marco Rubio helped to resolve the situation and make it possible for Ana to go to the USA.

Goalkeeper Vozinha, one of the most striking characters at the beginning of the World Cup, revealed emotionally after his debut that his own mother was unable to travel to the USA to follow Cape Verde's campaign in the tournament.
Responsible for a decisive performance in the draw against Spain, one of the favorites for the title, the 40-year-old veteran stated that the recent changes in US immigration policy made by the Trump administration were an obstacle to his mother's trip.
In January, Cape Verde was included in a list of countries whose citizens now have to present a US$15,000 deposit to enter the United States. The measure was adopted by Donald Trump's government as part of new immigration rules.
Last month, the White House announced that fans with tickets to the World Cup would be exempt from the requirement. According to Vozinha, however, the flexibility came too late for her mother to organize the trip of around 6,400 kilometers to Atlanta, where the Cape Verdean team played the match against Spain.
The situation gained repercussions in the United States, and Congressman Hackeem Jeffries had already said that he asked the Trump administration to intervene in the situation and help Vozinha's mother go to the USA.
Vozinha is experiencing one of the most important moments of her career precisely in the final stretch of their professional career. Until the end of last season, he played for Chaves, a club that competes in Portugal's second division. He is currently without a contract and, at 40 years old, he is one of the oldest players in this edition of the World Cup.
