Ghanaian star has been denied visa in Canada and will miss World Cup debut

One of the highlights of the Ghana National Team, Thomas Partey was denied a visa in Canada and will not be at his country's debut at the 2026 World Cup. Unlike the Ghanaian delegation, he will stay in Boston, USA, while the team travels to the other host country.

According to a report in the newspaper The Athletic, this Friday (12), FIFA confirmed the information and once again stated that it will not enter into immigration issues during the World Cup, as it has already stated on other occasions.

Thomas Partey, who plays for Vilareal, faces seven charges of rape and one of sexual assault and is still awaiting trial on the cases at Southwark Crown Court in London.

"FIFA is not involved in the immigration processes of the countries hosting the tournament, which includes the decision on visas. As has happened in other FIFA events, the government of the host country is the one who ultimately decides who receives the visa and who can enter the country," the organization told the newspaper.

Ghana debuts in the 2026 World Cup on Wednesday (17) against Panama, in Toronto, in Group L, also made up of England and Croatia.

Although he will miss his debut, Partey will be able to play in other Ghana games, which will take place in the United States, where the team has settled down for training throughout the World Cup.
