Gal Costa's anthological meeting with Marília Mendonça reverberates in the soundtrack of the soap opera 'Quem ama fale'

♬ Followers of the soap opera "Quem ama loja" will certainly have heard the voices of Gal Costa (1945 - 2022) and Marília Mendonça (1995 - 2021) in a joint recording on the soundtrack of the plot. To the surprise of the late admirers of these two singers who have already left the scene, Gal's feat with Marília in "Cuidando de longa" has reverberated on a national scale in some scenes of the 9pm soap opera on Globo.
The recording of this duet - anthological and even historic for bringing together a great MPB singer created in the 1960s with a star from the country music universe of the 2010s - was made on the afternoon of a Sunday, August 5, 2018, in a studio in the city of São Paulo (SP). The feat was made for the penultimate album recorded in the studio by Gal, "A pele do futuro", released in September of that year 2018.
Composition made by Marília Mendonça in partnership with Juliano Tchula, Junior Gomes and Vinicius Poeta, "Cuidando de far" was not an unreleased song. It had already been recorded by the singer from Pará Israel Novaes on a live album released in 2015, but it became known throughout Brazil in the recording that brought Gal together with the young singer and songwriter from Goiás, then at the height of her success.
The idea of producers Marcus Preto and Pupillo Oliveira was to evoke disco music through the feat, passing Marília Mendonça's suffering through the dance filter of the song "I will survive" (Freddie Perren and Dino Fekaris, 1978), a great success for North American singer Gloria Gaynor, one of the divas of the frenetic dancin' days era. The evocation of disco music was made by the arrangement and the choir with the voices of singers Catto, Céu and Maria Gadú.
Gal's singing wasn't as bright as usual on the track, but the recording is excellent and deserves a second chance on the soap opera "Quem ama Cuida" to reach new listeners.
