How influencers turned the use of anabolic steroids into entertainment on social media
This Sunday's Fantástico (31) showed how the death of bodybuilder and influencer Gabriel Ganley, aged 22, reignited awareness about the risks of using anabolic steroids and the way these substances are portrayed on social media. A preliminary report indicated that the young man died after a heart problem, but the definitive results of the tests are still awaited.
Among the excerpts shown in the report is a video of the meeting between Ganley and Léo Stronda, one of the influencers who most promote the use of anabolic steroids. The images show Gabriel receiving an anabolic steroid application on camera shortly after announcing that he had stopped being a "natural" athlete and started using hormones.
In the recording, made for an online program presented by Stronda, the influencer invites Gabriel to have a "second first time" and then gives him an injection in his arm. The report describes the scene as a kind of "baptism in the world of the bomb". After the application, Stronda signs the syringe and hands it to the young man as a symbolic trophy of his entry into the world of anabolic steroids.
When contacted by the report, Léo Stronda did not comment on the episode. After the repercussions of Gabriel's death, however, he published a video stating that he was sorry and said that he no longer intends to talk about anabolic steroids.
"In the last few days, in mourning for Gabriel, I also asked God to forgive me for the mistakes I made. You won't hear me talking about this subject anymore", he said.

Ganley's Change
Known as "Bebezinho Natural" for defending a training routine without hormones, the influencer and bodybuilder surprised followers by announcing that he had started using substances to accelerate muscle gains.
From then on, Gabriel began to speak openly about the topic and participated in various content aimed at the fitness public. In videos and interviews, he commented on the products he used, the results obtained and the impacts of the new routine.
Gabriel even stated that he did not pay for the products he used. According to him, he had obtained sponsorship and could request the substances he wanted.
Alerts after death
Even after the death of the influencer, the practice continues to be widely defended by content creators and athletes. In an interview with Fantástico, friends, bodybuilders and influencers interviewed by the report said that they do not intend to abandon anabolic steroids. Their assessment is that the problem would be the inappropriate use of substances, and not the hormones themselves.
Experts, however, dispute this idea.
"There is no scientific evidence of a safe use of this. When you normalize an attitude that is harmful to people's health, I was really shocked to see how they treat this among themselves. They have that joking nickname: 'I'm going to drink 'juice'", says doctor Luis Fernando Correia.

A preliminary report from the Legal Medical Institute indicated that Gabriel died as a result of a death sudden illness associated with a heart problem. The definitive result, including the toxicological examination, is still awaited by the São Paulo Civil Police.
For experts, regardless of the final cause of death, the use of anabolic hormones is associated with important cardiovascular complications, such as enlargement of the heart muscle and changes in blood circulation.

Gabriel's death shook fans and friends. Ricardo Lobo, 18, who met the influencer through bodybuilding, said he felt "anger and sadness" when he received the news.
"We have to do something that we normally wouldn't do to achieve something we wanted. Because in the end, it all comes down to the audience", says Ricardo Lobo, bodybuilder and friend of Ganley.
