"Frost Hunter" embarks on an adventure through freezing landscapes in SC
Would you go to the top of a mountain and face temperatures of -2°C just to see a view considered "the sky of the gods"?
Photojournalist Mycchel Legnaghi, yes. During a freezing adventure this Tuesday morning (7), the frost hunter, as he likes to be called, witnessed one of the most impressive views of Serra Catarinense.
Mycchel braved the forest and climbed to Morro do Cruzeiro, considered the highest point in São Joaquim (SC), where altitudes are estimated between 1,620 and 1,650 meters, to find the sky covered by clouds, plants that changed color when covered by ice, and the beginning of a beautiful sunrise.
At the top of the mountain, the photojournalist observed the meteorological phenomenon called "icicle", which forms after water droplets come into contact with the surface, transforming into ice and causing the tall vegetation to freeze.
"The view from here is splendid. It is the combination of altitude, extreme cold, ice and the arrival of sunlight that created a rare scenario, one that exists for just a few minutes and requires willingness to be recorded", describes the photojournalist.

Despite the beautiful view, the frost hunter explains that, as the morning advances, the first rays of the sun break down the ice formations and this causes the phenomenon to fall.
Freezing, low temperatures and frosts are frequently seen in the southern region of Brazil
With the intense mass of polar air advancing across Brazil, coming from the ocean, the southern region is the one that suffers most from the cold, as it is in a favored area, as one of the first to receive the mass.
According to the managing partner of Nottus Meteorologia, Alexandre Nascimento, the other reason for this is latitude. The South is further from the Equator, which means the sun's rays reach less intensely, especially in winter.
As it is further south, the cold fronts that pass through there end up having more potential to bring down temperatures. When the cold fronts "rise" more towards the tropical regions, the polar air mixes with the warm tropical air and the temperature drops are not as intense.

This Tuesday, for example, according to Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology), the cities of Quaraí (RS), Minas do Leão (RS), São José dos Ausentes (RS) and Jóia (RS), recorded the lowest temperatures in the country, being marked, respectively, at -1.3°C; -0.5°C; -0.4°C and -0.2°C.
In Santa Catarina, where Mycchel discovered the phenomenon, the lowest reported marks were in: São Joaquim (-3.5°C); Urupema (-2.8°C); Bom Jardim da Serra (-2.7°C); Urubici (-2.3°C) and Panel (-1.8°C).
