French newspaper criticizes referee's performance against Paraguay: "Catastrophic"

France secured its place in the quarter-finals of the World Cup this Saturday (4), by defeating Paraguay 1-0 at Lincoln Financial Field, in Philadelphia. Even with the victory, the newspaper "L'Equipe" rated the performance of referee Ilgiz Tantashev with a rating of one.

"A catastrophic performance. The referee of the match between Paraguay and France received the worst possible rating in our newspaper. He performed well below expectations, failing to issue any card to the Paraguayan players", declared the portal after the game defined by the goal scored by Kylian Mbappé.

In total, Tantashev scored 12 fouls from the French and 11 from the Paraguayans, in a duel that was marked by many disputes and provocations from both sides. He also handed out yellow cards to three players on the European team: Manu Koné, Michael Olise and Bradley Barcola.

With the triumph, France moves on to the next stage of the World Cup. In the quarterfinals, their opponent will be Morocco, who beat Canada by a score of 3-0. The match will take place next Thursday (9), at 5pm (Brasília time), at Gillette Stadium, in Boston.
