Freedom of Opinion: after 2nd denial, can Vorcaro get a plea bargain?

Commentators Alessandro Soares and Helio Beltrão debated, this Tuesday (16), in the Freedom of Opinion section, the rejection of the second plea bargain proposal from former banker Daniel Vorcaro.

The PGR (Attorney General's Office) informed the STF (Supreme Federal Court) this Monday (15) that it rejected Vorcaro's second award-winning collaboration proposal. The PF (Federal Police) had already rejected two proposals to inform the former banker. The second was on the 10th, when the delegates responsible for negotiating the agreement communicated the decision to the lawyers of the former owner of Banco Master.

Vorcaro has been in prison since March 4, when he was detained in one of the phases of Operation Compliance Zero, which investigates a financial fraud scheme.

Alessandro Soares understands that the space Vorcaro has for a plea bargain is very small. "The third time is as if it were an already worn-out relationship where the trust between the parties, in some way, is a little tarnished", he says.

"So, this makes it very difficult because whoever is going to report needs to think: 'Firstly, do I know more than the police know?' And secondly: 'if I know more than the police know, is it really worth talking about, since the police themselves and the Attorney General's Office don't seem to have much interest in closing this case?'", he adds.

Helio Beltrão questions the reasons why the plea bargain has not yet been accepted. "Is it because he's not turning over evidence or because he's turning over what can't be turned over?"

"It gives the impression that the authorities are shielding everyone, which, by the way, would be very convenient for the politicians who are associated with the case. We are on the eve of the campaign, imagine the impact that a serious accusation would have at this moment. But this is very bad for Brazil, because it undermines the credibility of the authorities", he adds.

Commentators also spoke about the trial of former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL) for coercion, and the case involving minister Alexandre de Moraes, from the STF, with the Rumble platform.
