Fraudulent olive oil: MAPA warns of product unsuitable for consumption

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) issued a risk warning to consumers about the sale of fraudulent and unfit extra virgin olive oil for consumption, this Tuesday (26).

The identified product is from the San Paolo brand and the batch has already been collected.

Sale was prohibited after laboratory analyzes confirmed the mixture of vegetable oils in its composition.

According to the ministry, the samples were collected during inspection carried out by the Federal Superintendency of Agriculture in São Paulo and analyzed by the Federal Agricultural Defense Laboratory in Goiás.

Mapa also reported that it found inconsistencies in the data of the company responsible for importing and selling the product.

The address and CNPJ informed on the labels and tax documents were not located or confirmed by the authorities.

"The SDA reinforces that the sale of the product constitutes a serious infraction, and establishments that keep the items for sale may be held responsible", says the official note from the department.

The Ministry advises consumers to immediately stop using the product and request a replacement, as provided for in the Consumer Protection Code.
