Formula 1: FIA annuls punishment and Pierre Gasly returns to the Monaco GP podium

Alpine driver Pierre Gasly was reinstated on the podium of the Monaco Grand Prix this Friday (12), after the Formula 1 stewards decided in favor of the team belonging to the Renault group and annulled the penalties applied for speeding in the pit lane.

The Frenchman had crossed the finish line in third place, but dropped to seventh place after two five-second penalties were imposed following the race held last Sunday.

Gasly finished the race in third place on the track, but was left out of the podium celebrations after two five-second penalties were applied after the final flag.

Formula 1, responsible for official timing, admitted a "measurement discrepancy" related to changes made to the pit lane.

Alpine, which had requested a review of the case, celebrated the decision in an official statement and thanked Formula One Management (FOM) and the International Automobile Federation (FIA) for their transparency and cooperation during the process.

On Sunday, Gasly insisted he had not exceeded the speed limit in the pit lane and said he was devastated by the punishments. The driver said he was heartbroken to have "a lifelong dream of standing on the podium in Monaco taken from me for reasons I simply cannot understand."
