Former senior CIA official arrested with $40 million in gold in US

The United States arrested a former senior CIA official after a search operation found gold bars valued at around 40 million dollars (R$202 million) in his residence, according to court documents.
FBI agents also seized 2 million dollars (R$10 million) in cash and around 35 luxury watches at David Rush's home in the state of Virginia.
The New York Times reported on Wednesday (27) that Rush was a former senior CIA official, citing sources close to the investigation.

According to the FBI, Rush lied about his academic background and military history when applying for the position in the American government. The investigation finds that he falsely claimed to have college degrees and experience as a pilot in the United States Navy.
According to the sworn statement in the case, Rush also falsified time records and improperly received $77,000 in payments related to military leave by claiming to be a member of the Navy Reserve.
Court documents describe Rush as a former senior official at a U.S. government agency with maximum security clearance and access to information confidential.
He was arrested on May 19 and is charged with stealing government resources. Rush's lawyer declined to comment on the case to The New York Times.
