Former Prince Andrew sublet property in the royal residence where he lived without paying rent

Former Prince Andrew, brother of King Charles III, sublet several country houses within the royal residence of Windsor for years, where he lived rent-free, reveals this Friday (5) a report from the British public accounts control body.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, stripped of his titles in 2025 following new revelations about his links to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, lived from 2003 until recently in the royal residence Royal Lodge, about 30 kilometers west of London.

To occupy the residence, where he lived with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, he initially paid a fee of one million pounds (R$ 7.4 million) and committed to investing 7.5 million pounds (R$55.5 million) in renovation works.
In return, it obtained a 75-year lease at a rent considered symbolic, "but which is in reality zero", according to the report. time, he did not pay rent to occupy a 30-room mansion, reveals the report from the National Audit Office.
"We do not know what rent was charged" for the country houses, the agency said.
The sublet properties have been unoccupied since April.
The lack of transparency surrounding the use of the royal residences has generated controversy for years, intensified after the fall from grace of former Prince Andrew.
The parliamentary committee in charge of public accounts also intends to launch an investigation this year into the royal properties.

The police, in turn, are investigating the former prince for "failure to perform public duties", as he is suspected of having passed on confidential economic documents to Epstein when he served as the UK's special envoy for Trade, between 2001 and 2011.
Andrew was briefly detained in February and the police carried out searches at Royal Lodge.
