Former presidents project the future of the USA on the country's 250th anniversary

Former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama marked the 250th anniversary of the United States in separate publications in which they encouraged Americans to protect the country's ideals and make the nation better.

Without naming President Donald Trump by name, Clinton criticized "the people in charge," including sending "masked agents into American communities," starting an "unconstitutional war," and using the government "to settle personal scores."

But Clinton highlighted her hope for the future, repeating an excerpt from her first inaugural address in 1993: "There is still nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right in America."

Obama wrote in an X post: "America is a constant work in progress. Each generation must take up the unfinished work of the previous one and carry it forward - protecting what is right, righting what is wrong, and making our union a little more perfect."

Meanwhile, Bush said in a video published by his presidential library: "The next 250 years require Americans to be citizens, not spectators."

"It requires Americans to take an active interest in the health and well-being of our country and the communities where they live, schools and churches. It requires Americans to vote and participate in the democratic process," he added.
