Former midfielder Fabrício recalls behind the scenes of his departure from Corinthians and conflict with Alberto Dualib

Brazilian champion with Corinthians in 2005, former midfielder Fabrício recalled one of the episodes that marked his time at the club. In an interview with the program Vestindo Histórias, on Itatiaia, the former player told details of the disagreement he had with then-president Alberto Dualib and explained how the episode ended up being decisive for his departure from Parque São Jorge.

According to Fabrício, the situation happened after a defeat to Cruzeiro, at Mineirão. On that occasion, he committed a penalty during the match and, upon arriving in São Paulo, he was questioned by journalists about an alleged statement by Dualib, who had defended his departure from the team.

Recalling the moment, the former midfielder stated that he responded in a tone of irony and recalled the meeting with the manager shortly after.

"I arrived in São Paulo the next day and everyone came after me: the press... They said that the president said I had to leave the team. I said: 'You have to ignore what the president is saying. He's old enough, relax'. I left straight from the airport with Betão, two other players from the team and Antonio Lopes (coach). I got there, and Dualib, poor guy, liked me, but what happens to Chico ends up Francisco. I didn't take shit home."

During the interview, Fabrício also recalled that he was facing physical difficulties during that period and revealed that he even asked not to play against Cruzeiro because he was not yet in full condition. Despite this, he was selected by coach Antônio Lopes and ended up committing the penalty that marked that confrontation.

"Nothing is by chance, but everything happens here. It was here at Mineirão, boy. It was like that back and forth, with Lopes insisting that I play, and I had no rhythm in the game, asking me not to play. I played. He put me against Cruzeiro, and I was crushing it. But, due to the lack of rhythm in the game, they crossed a ball and I went to dominate inside the area to launch the counterattack. When I went to dominate, however, the ball hit my arm. Penalty. It was my third penalty. I had already committed one against Palmeiras and another against São Paulo."

Fabrício explained that Alberto Dualib later denied having made the statement published by the press. Even so, the atmosphere behind the scenes had already deteriorated, and the midfielder ended up no longer being used by Corinthians until the end of the season, despite the support received from the cast and coaching staff.

"'I didn't say that', he said to me. I replied: 'Well, president, so I fell into the guys' trap. The guy said...'. He was blushing. I thought he was going to have a heart attack, that it would be a problem. He wanted to keep me away, but the group held me back. Lopes said it would affect the locker room. They took me to all the games, but they decided that I wouldn't enter. That was the end of my story at Corinthians."

Fabrício played for Corinthians between 2001 and 2005. During his time at the club, he won the 2002 Brazilian Cup, the 2002 Rio-São Paulo Tournament, the 2003 Paulista Championship and the 2005 Brazilian Championship. After leaving Timão, the former midfielder built a distinguished career at Cruzeiro, where he played between 2008 and 2011 and became one of the idols of the Minas Gerais fans.
