Former Corinthians striker praises Fiel and analyzes the moment of the Brazilian team

Even though he played for Corinthians for just three seasons, Luizão built a remarkable career at the club and became one of the great characters of the early 2000s. In his first year at Parque São Jorge, the former center forward played a decisive role in the campaign that culminated in winning the 1999 Brazilian Championship.

In an interview with Basticast, the former number 9 spoke again about the affection he receives from Fiel and made a point of praising the black and white fans, who, in his view, are among the most passionate in Brazilian football. Luizão also recalled the 2000 Club World Cup final, played at Maracanã, when Corinthians beat Vasco on penalties.

"There is no fan base like that of Corinthians. The Corinthians fans are fantastic, because they support you the entire game. They are a really crazy bunch. We beat Vasco and we were dead. And ten thousand Corinthians silenced 90 thousand Vasco fans. It's different", he said in an interview with Basticast.

Luizão's time at Corinthians came to an end at the beginning of 2002, precisely in the year of the World Cup. Despite having participated in just two matches in the tournament held in South Korea and Japan, the striker was part of the champion squad and was seen as the main option to replace Ronaldo, the top scorer of that edition.

When remembering the world conquest with the Brazilian team, the former player admitted that he had a dose of luck to be among those called up, overcoming competition from big names, such as Romário. He also revealed that he was facing a physical problem on the eve of the competition, but received the trust of then coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.

"Then I was called up in 2002, and everyone thinks the fight was between me and Romário, but it was between Romário and Ronaldo! I was lucky. I was in the one that won. I had edema on my leg, they wanted to cut me to take Romário, but Felipão played me", he explained.

Finally, Luizão commented on the current Brazilian team, which remains undefeated in this edition of the World Cup, accumulating three wins and one draw. Although he believes in the team's potential to win the title, the former striker understands that the generation is capable of reaching an even higher level in the 2030 World Cup.

"You saying that the team has no chance of becoming champions is a lie. Do we have a team to be champions? I think this team is for 2030. There are many young players who will be at the peak of their careers", he concluded.
