Foreign leaders congratulate US on 250 years of independence

Foreign leaders sent congratulatory messages this Saturday (4) and reaffirmed support for the United States during the celebrations of the country's 250th anniversary.

In Europe, the president of the European Council, António Costa, published a message on X congratulating "friends and partners in the United States of America" on the anniversary of independence.

In New York, the Statue of Liberty - a monument presented by France to the United States almost 140 years ago as a symbol of freedom and friendship - was illuminated with the colors of the American flag. In Paris, the Eiffel Tower also received special lighting in a "heartfelt tribute" to American friends.

The United Kingdom's Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted its relationship with one of its "closest allies" by publishing on X an image with the dates "1776" and "2026" on the United States flag. The American War of Independence, also known as the Revolutionary War, was fought to end British colonial rule.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) also participated in the celebrations on social media. In one publication, he thanked the United States Armed Forces for their "continuous and firm support of the Alliance." The message was released amid strained relations between Washington and European allies, while President Donald Trump and members of his administration frequently accuse European countries of relying excessively on American military spending.

In the Middle East, the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, congratulated Donald Trump and the American people on the 250th anniversary of national independence in a post on X.

The state-run Saudi Press Agency reported that the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, sent a telegram of congratulations to Trump on American Independence Day. In the message, he wished the president "good health and happiness", as well as "steady progress and prosperity" for the American people and government.

Lebanon President Joseph Aoun also wished Trump and the people of the United States "success, prosperity and more progress and achievements."

Congratulatory messages were also sent by other US allies in the region, including Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman.
