Food remains the main weight in May inflation
Food remains the main headache for containing inflation. The IPCA-15 (Extended National Consumer Price Index 15), recently released by IBGE, showed that the group increased by 1.38% in May, with food at home rising from 1.77% in April to 1.73% in May. The index rose 0.62% and was below the April rate of 0.89%
The declines in apples (-2.32%) and ground coffee (-2.09%) contributed to this result in household food. On the other hand, the highlights were increases in potatoes (26.29%), tomatoes (12.97%), long-life milk (6.07%) and meats (1.98%).
Eating away from home (0.51%) slowed down in relation to April (0.70%), due to changes in meals (0.57%) and snacks (0.37%), which, in April, had increased by 0.65% and 0.87%, respectively.
