Flower sales are expected to grow 8% on Valentine's Day
The Brazilian flower market projects an 8% growth in sales for Valentine's Day this year, compared to 2025, according to an estimate from Ibraflor (Brazilian Institute of Floriculture). Considered the second best date for the sector, behind only Mother's Day, the June 12th celebration accounts for around 10% of the national floriculture's annual sales volume.
"The search for more personalized and affectionate gifts has mainly driven the sale of cut flowers and exclusive arrangements, created from a combination of species, colors and textures", says Renato Opitz, director of Ibraflor.
According to him, flowers continue to be the protagonists of the date due to their ability to convey emotion and the possibility of creating different compositions. Despite this, potted flowers and plants have also been expanding their market share, especially species associated with delicacy and emotional symbolism, such as anthurium, known for its heart-like shape.
Among the most sought after cut flowers for the period are the traditional red roses, considered a classic symbol of passion." The red rose is a timeless classic. It is the most sold flower on all festive dates in all regions of the world", says Optiz.
Species such as lisianthus, alstroemerias, lilies, tulips, gerberas, sunflowers and cutting orchids also appear among the favorites.
The trend, however, goes beyond traditional bouquets. The market is focusing on more sophisticated and creative compositions, with combinations that mix roses, lisianthus and alstroemeria in romantic arrangements, as well as bouquets with sunflowers and wildflowers, seen as lighter and more relaxed options.
Another trend highlighted by Optiz are arrangements in pastel tones, with white, pink and lilac flowers, which have been gaining ground among consumers looking for delicate and modern gifts.
In the potted plants segment, orchids, anthuriums, violets, peace lilies, flowering kalanchoes and mini rose bushes appear among the most popular options for gifts. In addition to aesthetics, consumers value the symbolism of durability, care and strengthening of relationships associated with these species.
In Brazil, the advancement of garden centers and online flower shops has also favored the growth of sales and expanded consumer access to the sector's products.

"The digitalization of the flower trade and the expansion of online sales have contributed to strengthening the market, especially during seasonal dates, when demand for fast deliveries and personalized arrangements grows", explains Optiz
Ceaflor, one of the main sales hubs for the sector in the country, projects growth of between 5% and 7% in sales compared to last year.
The sector's positive expectations were reinforced by the performance recorded on Mother's Day, considered above expectations. For the week leading up to Valentine's Day, Ceaflor estimates a 50% increase in cargo movement compared to normal periods.
In addition to roses and orchids, Ceaflor highlights the growing demand for colorful flowers, ornamental plants and succulents. The date also boosts sales of complementary items, such as chocolates, scarves, baskets and decorative accessories, adding value to gifts.
