Flexible Durigan has no difficulty in "freeing up a little money", says Lula

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said this Thursday (11) that the Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, has "made his pocket more flexible" and "doesn't have so much difficulty releasing a little money".

The speech, in a humorous tone, was during a ceremony at Palácio do Planalto for the Imóvel da Gente program, which directs unused Union properties for housing and other public policies.

"Congratulations to the movements, to the people at Esther's ministry (Dweck, Minister of Management), congratulations to everyone. It's been more difficult. Lula also complained that the "administrative elite" in Brasília "doesn't know how poor people live." The president was referring to the fact that ministers normally have no knowledge about the lives of the poorest population.

"The administrative elite doesn't know how poor people live, they don't know that sometimes we run out of gas because we don't have money. They don't know that sometimes they don't have money to pay for transportation," he said.

The president also complained about what he called a "bureaucratic machine" and a "bureaucrat who would rather say no than do." The speech is close to what the PT has defended, of presenting itself as a party and a candidate that fights against what it calls the "system".

"When we want to do things, there is a bureaucratic machine that has a manual. If it falls into the hands of a bureaucrat who would rather say no than do it, we never do it", he stated.

Lula also defended the idea that the federal government should go ahead of the social movements and present a "shelf of available lands so that there is no invasion", in which the government would offer these lands to the movements.

"We don't need to wait for movements to occupy land for us to distribute", he said.
