Flávio says that Pix does not compete with American payment institutions

During a speech at a public hearing in the United States, senator and presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) stated this Tuesday (7) that Pix "does not compete with American payment institutions".

The hearing, organized by the USTR, an acronym in English for the Office of the United States Trade Representative, the body that conducts the open trade investigation against Brazil, takes place to discuss the possibility of imposing an extra 25% tariff on Brazilian products.

Flávio participates after sending an 86-page document to the United States authorities. In the material, he requests the suspension of the so-called tariff and asks that Pix not be included in the trade dispute between the two countries.

Government sent observers
At the last minute, the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) decided to send observers from the Brazilian Embassy in Washington to the public hearing at the USTR.

According to Planalto, the presence of diplomats aims to allow the government to become aware of the arguments presented during the meeting, but without changing the negotiation strategy with the American authorities.

For the government, talks with the United States have been conducted for about a year, without progress, due to political motivation on the part of the White House.
