Flávio is losing his ability to defeat Lula in the 2nd round, says Caiado

The pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Ronaldo Caiado (PSD-GO), questioned this Tuesday (16) the ability of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) to defeat President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in a possible second round in this year's elections.

"Flávio is losing his ability to defeat Lula in the second round. I'm not interpreting anything other than what the polls show. His decline in the second round, added to his setback in the first, shows that he may even reach the final stage of the dispute, but will he be able to win?", asked the former governor of Goiás during an interview with Poder360.

According to Caiado, Flávio was on a growth trajectory in the polls, but began to lose support after the release of information about the financing of Jair Bolsonaro's film "Dark Horse", by former banker Daniel Vorcaro. For the pre-candidate, the explanations given by the senator were not enough to convince part of the electorate.

"The result is there. He had a drop in polls. You can't cover the sun with a sieve. There was a moment when he even surpassed Lula. Research is like a radiological report. I'm not criticizing anyone, just interpreting the data. It's what directs us on how to act and what we're missing out on", he said.

In Caiado's assessment, part of the undecided voters migrated to Lula, which requires the right to build a candidacy capable of facing the president "one-on-one".

"A portion is undefined, but a small amount went to Lula. We need to rescue these votes. If Lula and the PT are Brazil's opponents, we need someone who can go head to head in the second round," he said.

Caiado is not the only center-right pre-candidate to criticize Flávio since the release of the messages involving Vorcaro.

Renan Santos, from Missão, stated that the senator would be another piece of what he called the "Party of Corruption". The former governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), classified the messages as a "slap in the face of Brazilians". The statement resulted in Zema being disinvited from a Novo event in Santa Catarina.
