Flávio Bolsonaro's defense says that the PF concluded an investigation without listening to Lula
The defense of senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) criticized the conduct of the PF (Federal Police) investigation that concluded that the practice of slander against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in a post by the senator about Nicolás Maduro.
In a statement, the lawyers stated that the investigation was closed without Lula, identified as the alleged victim, being heard by the PF. The defense also said that there were no interviews, examinations, production of documentary evidence or other investigative steps considered relevant.
The PF's final report was sent to the STF (Supreme Federal Court) on Friday (26). The investigation investigates a publication made by Flávio on X, formerly Twitter, in January, following news about Maduro's arrest by the United States and an emergency meeting by the Lula government.
In the post, the senator wrote "Lula will be denounced". For the PF, Flávio falsely attributed crimes such as international drug trafficking, money laundering and support for terrorists to the President of the Republic. The corporation concluded that there were elements of authorship and materiality to point to the practice of slander.
The defense, on the other hand, maintains that the PF did not produce sufficient evidence before closing the investigation. The lawyers claim that the steps requested by Flávio were denied and that they could demonstrate that the content of the post was not false.
With the report sent to the STF, it will now be up to the PGR (Attorney General's Office) to analyze the case. The Prosecutor's Office may file a complaint, request new measures or defend the closure of the investigation.
