FláSenator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) boarded this Saturday night (4), through Guarulhos International Airport, in São Paulo, to Washington in the United States.

The parliamentarian will participate, next Tuesday (7), in a public hearing promoted by the USTR (Office of the United States Trade Representative, its acronym in English), the body responsible for the trade investigation opened against Brazil.

Flávio will be one of the speakers on the second and final day of debates on the possibility of imposing an additional tariff of 25% on Brazilian products. The senator's demonstration is scheduled for 10 am Washington time (11 am in Brasília).

According to the parliamentarian, the intention is to defend that the surcharge is not implemented and to ask that the two countries seek a negotiated solution to the trade impasse.

In Flávio's assessment, the measure would harm Brazilian exporters and consumers and could politically strengthen President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Before the trip, the senator sent an 86-page document to the USTR in which he asked for the suspension of the so-called tariff and requested that Pix stay out of the trade dispute between Brazil and the United States.

The American government's decision on whether or not to adopt the tariff is expected by July 15th.

In addition to Flávio Bolsonaro, the hearing will feature the participation of Roberto Azevêdo, former director general of the WTO (World Trade Organization), who will speak on behalf of the CNI (National Confederation of Industry), Fiesp (Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo) and CSN (Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional).
