Five die and six are arrested in an operation in Complexo do Chapadão, in Rio

An operation by the Rio Military Police resulted in the death of five suspects and the arrest of six other people, this Tuesday morning (26), in Complexo do Chapadão, in the North zone of the city.

According to the corporation, the entry of police officers from the 41st BPM (Irajá) into the community began a confrontation with the criminals. After the shooting stopped, the five injured people were taken to Carlos Chagas Hospital, but they did not survive and died.

The action aimed to reduce the activity of organized crime in the region, mainly in controlling drug trafficking and territorial disputes between factions.

Four rifles, a ballistic vest, a pistol, radio transmitters and narcotics were found with the suspects.

This year alone, the PM has already seized 323 rifles, representing an increase of 16% compared to the same period last year.

CNN Brasil contacted the Civil Police for more details about the deaths and is awaiting their response. The space remains open.
