A fire in a dormitory in the central region of Nakuru, Kenya, killed at least 16 students, Capital FM radio reported this Thursday (28), citing a senior police official. According to the Kenya Red Cross, several students were taken to hospitals in the region to be treated.
Emergency rescue teams were searching the dormitory at Utumishi Girls Academy, where the fire broke out at around 7pm (Wednesday 27th, Brasília time), the broadcaster reported, citing Samuel Ndanyi, the regional police commander.
Firefighters and police fanned out to fight the flames and evacuate other students, it added.
Another 73 students were rescued and taken to hospitals in the region.
Until the last update of this report, it had not been reported what caused the fire.
