Fire hits elementary school in the United States

In the United States, firefighters struggled to put out a fire at an elementary school in Milwaukee, the largest city in the state of Wisconsin, on Tuesday morning (30), reported CNN affiliate WISN 12 News.

According to the newspaper, the fire alarm went off shortly before 3 am (local time) at the public elementary school. Firefighters went to the building and tried to fight the fire.

Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipski said crews had difficulty moving forward due to items stored in hallways, which complicated firefighters' movement around the school.

The teams ended up retreating out of the building due to the size of the school, the amount of furniture and objects in the hallways and the spread of the fire across several floors, according to the broadcaster.

By 4:30 a.m., the fire had reached a "5-alarm" level (a high severity rating), WISN 12 News reported.

Authorities said about 110 firefighters are working at the scene. None of them were injured and there are no others injured, according to Lipski.

There is still no information about the cause of the fire or where it started.
