Find out who the Brazilians died in the earthquake that hit Venezuela

The strong earthquake that hit Venezuela on June 24 left around 920 dead and more than 1,400 injured. This Friday (26), the MRE (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) confirmed that two of the victims are Brazilian.

The dead Brazilians are Vanessa Zacarias da Silva, aged 44, and Romildo Batista de Lima, aged 69. The identification was informed to CNN Brasil by the victims' family. Both had been in the country for a short time.

In a note on social media, Itamaraty informed that it provides consular assistance to the families of those affected by the tragedy. See:

When asked about confirming the identity of the victims, Itamaraty informed CNN Brasil that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not disclose or confirm personal information of citizens who request consular services nor does it provide details about the assistance provided to Brazilians.

One of the victims identified is Vanessa Zacarias da Silva, 44 years old. At the time of the tragedy, she was in the coastal area of La Guaira, about 30 km from the country's capital.

Before moving to Venezuela, Vanessa lived in Gama, in the Federal District. According to the woman's brother, Thiago Nogueira, she had moved to the country in search of new opportunities.

Family members described her as an "extraordinary, cheerful, human and serene" person. Thiago also informed that he awaits guidance and formalization from the competent authorities for the next steps related to the transfer of the Brazilian woman's body.

Romildo Batista de Lima
Pastor Romildo Batista de Lima, 69 years old, resident of Uberlândia, in the Triângulo Mineiro, is also among the victims of the earthquake. The information was confirmed to CNN Brasil by his niece, Jhulya Ribeiro de Lima.

According to Jhulya, her uncle was traveling to visit his wife, Carlha Nacarid, a native of Venezuela. The man was also celebrating his birthday, which was June 21st.

Also according to the victim's niece, the family contacted the responsible authorities, but were informed that it would not be possible to transfer the body at the moment. His wife, Carlha, is still hospitalized.
