Corinthians can once again qualify for a knockout stage in the Brazilian Under-20 Championship for the first time since 2023, as in the last two years they have fought in the last places of the national competition. During the afternoon of last Thursday (25), Alvinegro hosted Flamengo, at the Alfredo Schürig Stadium, Fazendinha, and drew 2 x 2. Timãozinho's goals were scored by defender Yago Melo and striker Nicolas Araújo.
Although they lost two positions with equality against the Cariocas, Corinthians remained within the category's Brasileirão classification zone, occupying eighth place with 29 points - eight wins, five draws and five defeats - 31 goals scored and 24 conceded. Precisely the top eight qualify for the knockout period. Next Wednesday (1), Alvinegro faces Juventude, away from home, in the last round of the initial phase of the competition and needs at least a draw to advance to the quarter-finals. The team from Rio Grande do Sul is fighting against relegation and is just one position above the relegation zone.

The first team outside the classification zone is Flamengo, which is in ninth place with 27 points. In the last round, Rubro-Negro faces Avaí, at home. A draw does not mathematically guarantee Timão in the next phase. This is because Flamengo, which currently has a balance of -1, would need to win by eight goals to try to draw on balance with Alvinegro, which corresponds to the second tiebreaker criterion.
In case of defeat, Corinthians could be eliminated in the first phase if Flamengo beats Avaí by any score. Bahia, tenth placed with 26 points and zero balance, has remote chances. The northeastern team faces Cruzeiro, who is in seventh place, in the last round and would need to win the game by at least seven goals difference and, at the same time, hope that Flamengo does not win. For the Esquadrão to qualify, the cariocas could only gain one point and Timão, in turn, could not even draw their game.
Before the decisive round, however, Corinthians will have a classic for the Campeonato Paulista U20. Next Sunday (28), at 3pm, Timãozinho will visit Santos, for the third round of the first phase of the state championship. Alvinegro won the first two matches, against Mirassol and Portuguesa Santista, by 1 x 0 and 2 x 0, respectively.
