FIFA Museum in Miami has error about Maradona's trajectory

A temporary FIFA exhibition in Miami tells the story of football and the World Cups, but has an error about the trajectory of Diego Armando Maradona, one of the most emblematic figures in the history of sport.

In the "Unidad - The World's Game" exhibition, on display in the city center, a section dedicated to Argentina in World Cups features a shirt that, according to the explanatory board, would have been "Maradona's for a 1974 friendly".

The problem is that Diego only made his debut for Argentina in 1977, in a friendly against Hungary, at Bombonera, which ended in a 5-1 victory for Albiceleste.

Maradona was 16 years and five months old at the time - in 1974, the date mentioned in the exhibition, he was only 14 years old.

Despite having played only 25 minutes against the Hungarians, the star was praised in a report about the game published in El Grão Magazine and received a rating of 7.

"Brash, astute, staring. Very good debut", wrote journalist Juvenal, a legend of El Grão and the Argentine press.

Another easily identifiable mistake is the sports supplier. In 1974, Albiceleste wore Adidas, the brand that printed the 1978 title uniform, for example. Le Coq Sportif, manufacturer of the shirt that appears in the FIFA Museum in Miami, only started sponsoring the team at the turn of the 1970s to the 1980s.

The "Unidad - The World's Game" exhibition is on display at the Freedom Tower, a historic landmark in Miami and located next to Fan Fest, and admission costs US$18 (R$93).
