Felipe Hintze explores themes from "Secret Truths" in a play about eroticization
Erotization, violence and desire are some of the themes explored by the new show "Forbidden for Under 18s", which premieres on August 1st at Teatro Estúdio, in São Paulo. Actor Felipe Hintze, 32, is the protagonist of the monologue and will lead the audience through the same theme he worked on in "Verdades Secretas" (2015), a soap opera by Walcyr Carrasco.
The unprecedented show, written by Hintze and Nicolas Ahnert, investigates the boundaries between violence, eroticization and dehumanization in contemporary society. The plot follows a man who, after witnessing a car accident with a fatal victim, plunges into an obsessive investigation into the possible relationships between violence, desire and identity. Throughout the narrative, the character confronts issues that speak directly to the current world: the overexposure of violent content that is trivialized in our daily lives.
It is worth highlighting that the proposal for the play is not a copy of the soap opera, but it touches on themes that provoke the viewer to reflect on the overexposure that is so normalized in today's society.
"'Secret Truths' was a turning point in my career. It was a project that showed me the power that more provocative stories can have when they address themes that are normally hidden. Previously I had done 'Dupla Identidade', which talked about the universe of a serial killer. At the beginning of my career, I flirted with very dense themes, then I explored lighter themes. Now I'm ready to return to more tense universes with 'Forbidden for Under 18s Years'", explained the actor.
Felipe also said he felt this was the time to delve even deeper into these deeper and more complex issues. He believes this is a piece that criticizes this overexposure of violent and erotic content that invades the media and social networks every day.
"It's been a long time since I've dealt with such a complex character. I've played a lot of comical and light characters, on television I've edited two soap operas out of 7, 'Família é Tudo' and 'Quanto Mais Vida Melhor', and I've done a comedy series on streaming, 'Jogo Cruzado', on Disney+. I think it's important to work with humor, but I think I'm ready to return to themes that led me to national recognition at the beginning of my career", he declares.
The show runs at Teatro Estúdio on Saturdays, at 8:30 pm, lasts 65 minutes, and is rated 18 years old. Tickets are sold at Sympla and cost between R$40 (half price) and R$80.
