Fee R$80 thousand? Virginia mother's team explains participation in event
The name of Margareth Serrão, 60, mother of influencer Virginia Fonseca, 27, gained prominence on social media last weekend. It all started when the businesswoman participated in an edition of the Somos Elas event, aimed at female entrepreneurship, in Porto Seguro, Bahia.
Quickly, information about a supposed fee of R$80,000 for an hour of lecture went viral on X, formerly Twitter.
Sought by CNN, the matriarch's press office assured that the information is unfounded.
"Margareth Pimenta Serrão did not give any paid lectures or provide consultancy. She participated in the event only as a guest and used her speaking time to share her life trajectory and personal experiences with the public."
Also in a note, the team said that there is no course, lecture or consultancy offered by them for a fee, nor was there any contracting for the aforementioned amount.
How was Margareth's participation in the event?
Alongside other participants and guests, Margareth shared her journey in raising her children.
"You have to provide the basis to be able to fly. If you keep him in a cage, he will always live under your wings. Do the same with your children", he suggested.
"The lesson I want to leave you here today is: support your children in what is good for them. Support what they like to do. If you like football, support football. If you like singing, if you like dancing, whatever it is", he continued.
Margareth also mentioned Virginia. "She raises her boys and I said: 'You raise your children the same way I raised you. I never arrested my son. Wilinha (William) stayed in the United States when I left, at 18 years old. I left him all prepared. At 16 years old, he already had a car, he already had a license."
The businesswoman also defended the importance of giving autonomy to her children, as overprotection can limit personal development.
"I'm a very positive person. I always put positivity in everything I want to make happen. So, all of this I passed on to my children, both William and Virginia. And Virginia, since she was little, I've been saying: 'You can, you can do it, go for it'. I've always given my children strength for everything. And we have to give support too", he said.
About family emotions, Serrão said that he tries to be more firm in moments of fragility. "Crying nowhere, not in a hammock or in front of anyone. I talk to her (Virginia): 'Cry, you cry in your room with God. If you need someone to cry with, you call me and I'll come. But don't cry, don't lament, go over it, get up, dust yourself off and walk away'. It has to be like that with your children."
