Federal state-owned companies have a record loss of R$5.9 billion from January to April
Federal state-owned companies generated a record loss of R$5.9 billion in the first four months of this year, according to data from the BC (Central Bank) fiscal statistics report, released this Friday (29). The result represents 0.14% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
Considering the beginning of the historical series, in 2002, this is the worst for the first four months of the primary result of federal state-owned companies since last year, when the loss recorded was R$2.73 billion.
The BC indicator does not include Petrobras Eletrobras and the public banks Caixa Econômica Federal and Banco do Brasil.
The data for the first four months of this year is also comparable to the loss accumulated throughout the entire year 2025.
This year, the worst result for federal public companies is still in January. The month of April had the second worst result of the year, according to the BC.
The results occur at a time when one of the country's main state-owned companies, Correios, recorded a loss of R$8.5 billion in 2025. The loss was three times greater than the result of 2024.
This was the fourth consecutive year in which Correios recorded a negative result since 2021 - when the state-owned company recorded a record profit of R$3.7 billion.

Currently, the state-owned company is undergoing restructuring, after having diagnosed negative net equity of R$ 10.4 billion and accumulated losses of R$ 6.057 billion until September 2025, in addition to the sharp drop in quality and liquidity indicators.
Since then, the plan has been carried out in phases. The first stage is focused on reorganizing the financial flow, regularizing pending issues accumulated with suppliers and outsourced employees, in addition to recovering financial predictability.
As part of the first phase, Correios raised R$12 billion in credit from a pool of banks. The resources ensured immediate liquidity to normalize financial flow, settle outstanding obligations and recover credibility with suppliers, employees and customers.
