Fake doctor who performed clandestine abortions in Barra da Tijuca is arrested

A fake doctor suspected of performing clandestine abortions in Barra da Tijuca, in the southwest zone of Rio de Janeiro, was arrested this Friday morning (5).

He was located by Civil Police agents at his home in the Benfica neighborhood, in the north of the capital of Rio de Janeiro. According to police, the man performed the procedures in a "well-structured" clinic.

The case began to be investigated after the death of a woman who had performed a procedure on the man. In addition to her, a second victim also suffered serious injuries after being treated by the suspect.

Investigations indicate that the suspect had no training in medicine and performed abortions without adequate surgical equipment and without basic materials for emergency care. During the procedures, the man even used paper towels.

At the clinic, several surgical materials and medicines related to illegal procedures were seized. Once at the suspect's house, the police seized ammunition.

Due to the material found, the man was also charged with illegal possession of ammunition.
