Fachin and Alcolumbre meet to discuss project on judges' salaries

The president of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), Edson Fachin, and the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), met, this Monday morning (25), to debate the drafting of a bill that regulates the salaries of judges.

In addition to the remuneration of the judiciary, the debate also addressed the need to "improve the remuneration system in the public service". The "multiplication of ancillary pecuniary benefits", such as bonuses, additional payments, allowances and autonomous installments, and the repercussions of these funds on transparency were discussed.

According to the Senate's advice, the authorities reaffirmed the STF's jurisprudence on the unconstitutionality of advantages that exceed the constitutional ceiling for public service, currently R$46,366.19.

It was understood that "this is a structural issue, requiring a general legislative solution that preserves the value of public careers".

The salary of the judiciary returned to the public debate after decisions that restricted the so-called "penduricalhos", compensation funds that are not included in the calculation of the constitutional ceiling.

Last week, Fachin presented a proposed resolution to establish a single paycheck for magistrates throughout the Judiciary. The text must be voted on in the plenary session of the CNJ (National Council of Justice) next Tuesday (26).

At the meeting, the president of the STF and Alcolumbre agreed to maintain an institutional dialogue on the topic "with the expansion of discussions to the Executive Branch and other interested institutions and entities". The intention is to gather suggestions for the preparation of a proposal to be analyzed by the Legislature.
