F1: see the Canadian GP starting grid with Russell on pole

George Russell waited until the last second to take pole position in the Formula 1 Canadian GP. The Briton from Mercedes did not lead any part of this Saturday's session (23) other than the final seconds, in which he overtook his teammate, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, in the internal fight for the lead.

Gabriel Bortoleto was 13th.

This is the second time that the 28-year-old driver has started from the position of honor - the last time was precisely at the season opener, in Australia. The result also consolidates the dominance of the German manufacturer, which has started from the front in all races so far.

Due to the weather being colder than on previous days, the drivers took some time to find the same tire temperature and set fast laps. No surprises in Q1, however. All favorites advanced smoothly.

Antonelli was the fastest with 1min13s380 and those eliminated were: Esteban Ocon, Alexander Albon, Fernando Alonso, Sergio Pérez, Lance Stroll and Valtteri Bottas. Bortoleto fell until the last moments of the first half, when he completed a lap that took him 16th, stuck in the 'sticking zone'.

The Brazilian was unable to advance to Q3, but qualified in 13th, close to his Audi teammate, Nico Hulkenberg, in 11th, with times of 1min14s071 and 1min13s886, respectively. Isack Hadjar surprised by leading Q2 with 1min12s975, a time similar to Russell's in the sprint race, when he started from the front

In addition to Bortoleto and Hulkenberg, the following were also eliminated in the second part of the classification: Liam Lawson, Pierre Gasly, Carlos Sainz and Oliver Bearman.

In Q3, it was Norris who jumped ahead in the first attempts, with 1min12s729, which was the best time of the weekend so far, but Antonelli clocked 1min12s646 and surpassed him.

But the Italian didn't even have time to celebrate his provisional pole position, as Russell 'flew' in his last lap with 1min12s578 and took first place on the grid.
