F1: Russell surpasses Hamilton and takes pole at the Barcelona-Catalunya GP

British George Russell maintained Mercedes' streak of pole positions this season by securing, this Saturday, first position on the grid for the Catalan Grand Prix in Barcelona. Next to him on the front row will be his compatriot Lewis Hamilton, from Ferrari.

His Mercedes teammate, Italian Kimi Antonelli, leader of the Formula 1 championship and looking for a sixth consecutive victory on Sunday, qualified in third place. McLaren's world champion, Lando Norris, took fourth place.

Mercedes has taken pole position in every race so far this season. With this Saturday's result, Russell reached his third pole of the year, while Antonelli has four.

The final phase of the qualifying session was briefly interrupted after an accident involving Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.
