F1: Antonelli wins the Canadian GP and takes fourth consecutive victory

Kimi Antonelli, leader of the Formula 1 drivers' championship, won, this Sunday (24), his fourth consecutive victory in the competition. He won the Canadian GP, in a race that saw the abandonment of George Russell, his Mercedes teammate and main rival for the title.

Russell, who started on pole position, was competing for the lead with Antonelli in an exciting battle, until he stopped at the side of the track on the 30th lap of the 68 held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, in Montreal.

"That's not how I wanted to win. It was supposed to be a good fight with George, but we'll accept it," said the 19-year-old Italian. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton finished second, just over 10 seconds behind the driver who replaced him at Mercedes.

Max Verstappen, from Red Bull Racing, was in third place, being overtaken by Hamilton in the final laps. This was the first podium for the Dutchman and his team in the 2026 season.

Championship situation and other results
Kimi Antonelli extended his lead over George Russell from 18 to 43 points after five GPs and three sprint races. He is the first Italian since Alberto Ascari in 1952 to win four races in a row, as well as being the first driver in Formula 1 history to win his first four victories consecutively. The podium also marked Mercedes' 300th since the team's official return to F1 in 2010.

"Everything suddenly shut down. I went into the corner, the engine went out, no electronics, no proper brakes. I'm very frustrated with what happened, but what else could I do?" Russell complained. Mercedes leads the constructors' championship with 219 points scored.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finished fourth, while Isack Hadjar (Red Bull) and Franco Colapinto (Alpino) finished fifth and sixth respectively. Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, an Audi driver, was 13th.

No McLaren driver scored: Oscar Piastri finished 11th and received a 10-second penalty for a collision on lap 15 that took Williams' Alex Albon out of the race, while reigning world champion Lando Norris retired on lap 38 due to a gearbox problem.
