Ezequiel recalls his time at Corinthians, friendship with former teammates and highlights players from the current squad

Idol of a remarkable generation at Corinthians, Ezequiel once again recalled important moments of his career at the club. The former midfielder, who played for Timão between 1990 and 1995, participated in an event with former players and in an interview with Rádio Coringão spoke about the identification built with the fans, the titles won, his teammates and also analyzed the current moment of the black and white team.

With 254 matches played for Corinthians, Ezequiel won five titles with the club: the 1990 Brazilian Championship, the 1991 Brazilian Super Cup, the 1994 Copa Bandeirantes, in addition to the Campeonato Paulista and the 1995 Copa do Brasil.

When remembering his time at Parque São Jorge, the former player highlighted his gratitude for the period he spent with the black and white shirt.

"It's a shame you didn't see Ezequiel play. You were going to have good times in your life. For me it was a great honor to be part of the Corinthians squad from 1990 to 1995, where we had good friends, good companions. A very warrior team, a team that, on the field, showed what they were for. And that only gave me joy and gratitude to Corinthians to this day."

During the interview, Ezequiel also remembered athletes who marked their time alongside him and highlighted the bond that remains with many of them even decades after their careers ended.

"Wow, it's very big, very big. In addition to the ones you mentioned, there was also Tupãzinho, we had Giba... Wow, it's a lot of people, it's a lot of people. It's a select group of very good players who are also very good at heart. And we keep in touch with them to this day. So it's gratifying to have been able to wear the shirt alongside these great beasts there."

One of the most remembered moments in Ezequiel's career came after a defeat to Flamengo in the 1992 Brazilian Championship. At the time, while a large part of the team received criticism from the fans, the midfielder had his name recognized by Fiel. The former player commented on the memory.

"Look, I've had it with me since I arrived at Corinthians. Before I arrived at Corinthians, I was at Ituano and the willpower and the desire to win were always very strong. So I think that predominated so that we could have had a good game. If I'm not mistaken, it was against Flamengo in that game. We lost 3 x 1 and I scored the goal. So, I mean, I even felt honored for not being charged by the fans of the Gaviões, because many there had their ears pulled. But I feel very happy about that. Not because I wasn't charged and not because my teammates were, but because I did my best, even without getting the victory."

The former midfielder also highlighted the importance of meetings between the club's former athletes, which help to keep friendships built over the years alive.

"That's what you said. It's been a while since we've seen each other. In fact, Corinthians is always together. Now, at the moment, not so much because of the games and also because the city halls are a little short on funds. But the important thing for us is to always be together. When we're together, you see that it's just joy in the locker room. People are always telling jokes and reliving past moments. So it's important for us to always have that memory and be able to be with them all."

When asked about the current Corinthians squad and which players come closest to the characteristics that marked his career, Ezequiel pointed out two names from the group led by Fernando Diniz.

"In the current squad, it's difficult for us to say something like that. Raniele is a player who went through a bit of a difficult phase and today he's starting to find himself in football again. He's a kid who has shown that he can wear the shirt. Yuri Alberto isn't just for the goals, but for the dedication he has on the field, for the commitment he shows. So, these two players today are the ones who are strengthening the Corinthians team.

I'm sure that, with the arrival of the new coach, the team can evolve further. This already started from the game against Grêmio. I'm sure that now, in the Libertadores too, the team will become stronger, because we will have time to train and be able to dedicate ourselves a little more. So, it's a little more commitment, a little more will and determination so that Corinthians can be that Corinthians again, the team that everyone liked to see run, play and show their best on the field", he concluded.
