The second phase of the World Cup begins this Sunday (28) with the first match of the round of 32. Of the 48 teams that entered the competition, 16 were eliminated in the first phase.

But anyone who thinks that the teams return to their countries empty-handed is mistaken. Teams still win even though they have been eliminated.
How much do those who fall in the group stage earn?
Initially, FIFA had announced that teams that were classified for the tournament, but were eliminated in the group stage, would receive US$9 million (approximately R$46.7 million). However, in April this year, the entity reported that the amount had increased to US$10 million (R$51.77 million).
In addition, all teams qualified for the World Cup were entitled to US$ 2.5 million (approximately R$ 12.9 million) to cover preparations before the tournament.
In practice, this means that no team will leave the competition with less than US$ 12.5 million in guaranteed revenue (R$ 64.7 million).

About the 2026 World Cup
The 2026 World Cup is the first in history to be played in three countries - the United States, Mexico and Canada. In total, 16 cities will host tournament matches, the vast majority in the USA.

United States: 78 games (including all knockout stages from the quarter-finals onwards and the grand final).
Mexico: 13 games (including the opening game at the Azteca Stadium).
Canada: 13 games.
