Eurozone GDP falls 0.2% in the 1st quarter of 2026

The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the euro zone shrank 0.2% in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the previous three months, according to the final reading released this Thursday (5) by Eurostat, the statistics agency of the European Union (EU).

In the annual comparison, the bloc's GDP expanded by 0.3% between January and March. The final numbers came in well below previous estimates and analyst forecasts compiled by FactSet, of a quarterly increase of 0.1% and an annual increase of 0.8%.
