European Union demands that the US comply with trade agreement after Trump's threat to Spain

The European Union expects the United States to fulfill the commitments made in the trade agreement signed between the two parties, said a spokesperson for the European Commission this Wednesday (8).
The statement was made after US President Donald Trump ordered the Treasury Secretary to interrupt trade relations with Spain.

Speaking in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, Trump classified Spain as a "terrible partner" of NATO when criticizing allies for, according to him, not supporting the war against Iran. He then ordered Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to suspend trade relations with the country.
"I remember that we signed a joint declaration with the United States last year. We hope that the US will fulfill the commitments made in this statement, just as we fulfill ours," said European Commission spokesman Olof Gill.
"The Commission will always ensure that the interests of the European Union and all its Member States are fully protected. We will continue to defend stable, predictable and mutually beneficial transatlantic trade for all," he added.
