European Commission must help farmers with 540 million due to war

The European Commission proposed this Friday a financial aid package worth 540 million euros ($625.4 million) to help European Union farmers who need to buy fertilizers, whose prices have soared due to the impact of the war with Iran.

"Today, we are delivering on our commitment to support farmers facing skyrocketing fertilizer costs. I can confirm that we have proposed a €540 million EU [European Union] financial support package, which Member States will be able to complement with national funds to mobilize up to €1.5 billion in aid to farmers on the ground," said Christophe Hansen, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, in a statement.
