Euro zone annual consumer inflation accelerates to 3.2% in May
The CPI (annual consumer inflation rate, in English) in the euro zone accelerated to 3.2% in May, compared to 3.0% in April, according to the final reading released this Wednesday (17), by the European Union's statistics agency, Eurostat.
The result confirmed the preliminary estimate and was in line with the forecast of analysts consulted by FactSet. The rate, however, remains well above the official ECB (European Central Bank) inflation target of 2%.
In the monthly comparison, the CPI rose 0.1% in May.
The core CPI, which excludes energy and food, increased 2.6% year-on-year in May, above the preliminary estimate of 2.5%, and also higher than the 2.2% increase recorded in April.
