"Euphoria" creator explains the end of the series' 3rd and final season
Sam Levinson, creator and writer of the series "Euphoria", said that he had written a different trajectory for the protagonist Rue (Zendaya) at the end of season 3.
In an interview with Popcast, from The New York Times, Levinson said that the death of Angus Cloud - Fezco in the series - was the main aggravating factor for the change.
Spoiler alert: the following text contains spoilers for the 3rd season of the series "Euphoria".
He explained that the fentanyl-related overdose, the cause of Rue's death in the third season and the actor's death in 2023, made him want to show the real consequences of drug consumption, without romanticization. Levinson stated that "most people don't get a second chance" and that "fentanyl can take you out in an instant."
Levinson also said that, with the entire cast, his goal was to deconstruct "the illusions of the world we live in, whether that 'likes fill the soul' or that love, money, fame and drugs provide an escape", referring to the other characters' narrative arcs.
